Complications of Liposuction For Weight Loss

Filed under: Weight Loss — admin @ 6:59 am

There are various different kinds of weight loss surgical procedures which have proved to be immensely successful in resulting in permanent weight loss over a certain period of time. However it is to be borne in mind that surgical procedures are applicable only in case of such patients who are exceedingly overweight and for whom other forms of weight loss programs like diets and supplements have not proved to be beneficial. Liposuction is not a weight loss program though it can aid in losing weight by aiding in the removal of excess fat which accumulates in the different parts of the body with the help of surgical procedures. Liposuction is predominantly carried out in the abdomen, neck region and the thighs. It is essential to note here that as a prerequisite one undergoing liposuction must be an adult having good health condition. This is because patients suffering form health complications like certain ailments like diabetes cannot qualify for liposuction. Over the years, scientists and medical practitioners have been able to point out certain complications which may adversely affect the liposuction surgical procedures.

Here it can be noted that like most surgical procedures, liposuction requires to make an opening or incision in order to insert the hollow tube called cannula required fro surgery. In such cases, it is possible for some bacteria to invade through that incision and therefore cause an infection which may affect the body and give rise to various complications. The medical practitioners are mostly concerned with the removal of the various layers of fat that have accumulated and in course of doing so sometimes they may end up in damaging the skin though immense precautions are taken. But at times the hollow tube or the cannula may cause harm to some tissue beneath the layer of the outer skin and this may leave behind spots on the external surface of the skin. In case of liposuction, the cannula has to be inserted within the incision that is made on the external surface of the body and in doing so it is possible that one of the internal organs may get damaged and in such cases serious complications may arise putting the patient’s life in danger. In course of the surgical procedure, it is possible that certain medications or constituents may not suit the body and this can lead to the outbreak of allergic reactions thus further complicating the surgery.
